Happy Halloween

Luce decided to dress up as a black bear for Halloween this year. I think he nailed it!
Luce does not get brushed at home all that often. He does go to the groomer every 3-4 weeks which usually keeps the fur level in the house under control. Sometimes it is clear he needs some extra help. As you can see, he does not appear to be too traumatized after the fact.
We decided to take advantage of some great fall weather and sit outside on the back porch. At first Luce stayed inside which was probably because he was not sure what we were doing. Then he poked the screen door and since it was not latched, it opened as he pushed on it. We figured he would not want to be in the sun but I guess it was OK for him. The fact that we had food on the table was probably another reason for him to come out and stay.
The picture says it all. There was an attempt to get him to stay on a small blanket in a feudal attempt to keep the fur level to a minimum but he decided to re-arrange it before he nestled in.
After his walk, Luce is a bit tired and many times I need to make a deposit in the trash can. Since I don’;’t really want him roaming around down there and he is pretty tired anyway and tell him to “up, up” which is the command to go up stairs. It also works for getting him to jump into the car and jump up onto the bed. Its a very versatile command. He will stay there until I get back. Here, I am approaching form the right side so he just watches as I come around.
Here is a straight on pic and still watching.
This morning it was a bit overcast so Luce was OK to go hand out on the dock for a little while with Stacey.
But after a while he probably either got hot, thirsty, or both. To Luce the lake is really just a giant water bowl. Yes, that is his tongue out while lapping up some lake water, and yes, he got yelled at almost immediately not to drink the water.
We took a short trip to Lake Murray in South Carolina and met up with Stacey’s step sister and family. We had a great place right on an inlet off the main lake which was great. Luce got to meet Beasly who is a super mellow English Bulldog. Being newly minted UGA Bulldog fans we nick named him “Uga” after our Georgia Bulldog’s official mascot.
As you may already know, Luce is not a water dog. He can’t even swim. We found that out the hard was at Lake Tahoe but thats another story. He is fine on land and even on the dock. Here he is returning up the dock access catwalk, probably to get out of the sun.
Luce does not really spend much time outside. This day he decided that he wanted to play, which is more like lay and play. He will let you know by throwing himself down and wagging his big bushy tail.
Then he may jump up and run a little then go down again like here.
Well, summer is back here in Georgia. Its not that hot yet but it is definately not to his liking. At first it is kind of hard to tell where he decided to stop and sit.
Upon closer inspection he stopped and sat just inside the shade line as I would have guessed.
Luce visited Florida but unfortunately he was not a big fan. This was totally due to the lack of shade around where we stayed and the heat. He did like the air conditioning and was able to hang out on the covered deck. Keeping the sliding door open so some cool air brushed over him also helped.
